New capitalone card?

I had a text today to say that I should start using my new CapitalOne card as the old one will soon stop working.

Seems a bit weird as the current one still has two years before it expires.

I thought they could have cancelled the card if a retailer had leaked some details but surely if this was the case they would have cancelled them immediately?

Wondering if anyone has received the same as I am at uni at the moment so there is a bit of a delay getting stuff forwarded from home.

This could be genuine, I received a new card despite having 18 months before expiry, this was a couple of months ago.

I just received the card though along with an explanation, PIN didn't change and I didn't receive a text or anything else though.

Perhaps a batch of card numbers was compromised by their offshore call center or the like?

Hope not as I have a Cap1 card, hoping that no replacement card is a good sign
