Macdonalds - is this what passes for normal?

For my sins, I had to joing a friend in McD's and decided to hve one of their bagels. It was described as bacon, cheese and egg.
What I got was this:
Outisde: A Bagel covered in grease
Inside: 2 rashers of bacon (comparatively normal looking)
some messed up yellow stuff that was apparently cheese
a white rubbery thing with a yellow bit in the middle (egg?)
the latter component mostly consisted of fat that dripped off the bagel into a rather large puddle on the table. It was only after one bite that I noticed this, and that after the third chewing of said mouthful did I realise that the paper napkin was sodden with grease and that it was still pouring off. 2 napkins later, the grease finally stopped dripping.
I realised that there was no point in trying to argue with staff, so I just marched up to the till (past queueing customers) where the manager was (well they had a big shiny gold badge saying that anyway) and slapped it downin front of him, causing a stirr of "eughhh!" and "Not ordering that".
I've only been into McD's a couple of times before when I was a kid, so I don't know if this kind of food is normal for this company. Is it? If so, it would have shamed a greasy spoon outlet.

Don't bother trying to sue me - I've got no money!

You were lucky the bacon wasn't cinders..it usually is.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
On occasion, pretty normal...but i'm interested in what the Manager had to say about your complaint (I assume you didn't just "Slap it down" and look at it?).
It's one thing for them to give out a skanky burger/bagel, but my experience is that they are pretty good at replacing it with somethig NOT dripping in grease, generally made personally by the manager (an all around better burger/bagel, and hot to boot!)Good Enough Club member number 27(2) AND I got me a stalkee!

That the list of problems? Sounds like you had a fairly decent meal there considering others stories!0

Is the bacon they use there reconstituted? It's like those crisps called Frazzles rather than real bacon.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I know it is really sad but I quite like McD bagels. I have found they vary hugely from branch to branch with some being like the one described but some quite good. The McD with the most awful ones. near here, has closed down at Christmas so obviously people power does work!!0

Did you complain about the lack of waiters/waitresses as well? And no knives and forks either - do they expect you to eat with your fingers? :rotfl:"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Generally I can't eat McDonalds without feeling nauseaus... I don't know how anyone over the age of 12 stands it0

I think it's a genuine debate. For years now, outlets like McD's have had photos of (say) Big Macs on display tempting you, whereas what you actually get is a pale comparison in reality. I do shop at McD's now and again, but I am under no illusions about the standard of food I am going to get. I suspect that if you'd never been to one before (or not recently, as you say) then you'd get a bit of a shock.
The only thing that I hope for, as I tuck into my Big Mac with limp lettuce and lifeless cheese, is that the produce has been prepared in a clean environment and that the staff too are hygeinic. Anything else, like an unsquashed bun, is a bonus.
Tell you what though (and this might be lighting another touchpaper on the boards) but if I want quality fast food now I go to Subway. The same £3 gets me a far superior snack, in my opinion.DFW Nerd 0350 -
I had an awful big tasty meal, which was tasteless.
Cold burger and rock hard bun. Cold chips
Complained, and was offered replacement as well as compensation in the form of a muffin.
Result:
Freshly cooked BTB (prob with dollop of spit in it)
OVER salted fries (just to !!!!!! me off more)
stale muffin (like a pumice stone)
Opinion:
Go for a pub lunch instead!! (its cheaper!)

Burger King recently got their wrists slapped by the ASA over advertising of their Angus burger, so it's a known issue.
I'd also rather go to Subway (although given the choice I'd cook at home!)0
