Radley / DPD delivery

Ordered from the Radley website on 10th November.
Delivery was despatch within 2 working days of order being verified, then 2-3 days to arrive.
15 November (2 working days) I got a txt saying the order would be delivered that day within a 1 hour delivery slot, or I could pick an alternate day. Once I got over the shock of being given such a specific time slot rather than a half or even full day, and the option to change, I chose to change the delivery to a day I already had off work.
Today's the day. Another txt with a 1 hour slot, and now, well within that hour the DPD driver has delivered my order.
Excellent - why isn't it always that easy?

  • ASOS have also started using DPD for their Premier customers, and I had the same experience as you - a world away from Hermes/HDN! :j

I had exactly the same experience when I ordered a Radley iPhone case. Great service from both company and courier. :j
  • DPD are excellent - wish more retailers and sellers would use them rather than the substandard rubbish from the likes of Hermes / Yodel et al......why can a delivery slot not be given by ALL couriers, utility meter readers and the like? WTH do they think they are, expecting people to waste a day's annual leave sitting waiting for some pl o nker who may or may not even bother to arrive???
  • Hermes generally use self employed people who deliver in their cars and get 45p per parcel for the privelage. They are supposed to get their parcels early in the morning to make the "job" flexible for them. The reality is, many don't get them until late in the day and this obviously impacts service.
Yodel drivers have to do substantially more deliveries per day than DPD ones.I regularly have close to 200 a day and speaking to DPD drivers along my route they seem to have around 100 a day to do.Now if you know how I could deliver twice as many parcels and still provide the same level of service I am all ears.
BTW- the plonke rs as you put it are the ones who order something to an address where noone is going to be in and then compalain about not getting their parcel.

why can a delivery slot not be given by ALL couriers?
Because that would drive up the cost of delivery across the board to everyone, as each driver would be able to do less in a day and therefore be less productive. Think of the person who would arrnage the route, all in order with drops times etc (that person will want paying for that), then the driver who loses 15-20% productivity due to this, but isn't willing to take a 20% pay cut.

Have you considered having your parcel delivered to where you are, such as your work?

  • I have delivered to people who have complained I have not rung them in advance to let them know I am coming. When I tell them we don't have the time to do that(nor do we provide that service or are provided with a company phone) they say "it only takes a minute", failing to realise that they are not the only person I am delivering to and if I had to do that for everyone it would take 2 hours+ a day.Time that I am supposed to be delivering in.

Because you paid much more for this delivery than any other.

As well as spending your money on calling them, further reducing your profit margin to next to zero.

Can only praise DPD too. Waiting for a collection of my daughter's laptop for collection to repair. Got the standard email to say that they would be on said day, then a text message stating they would be within a particular hour, with the option to change it. Chap who came was friendly, came into the house to pack up the laptop, was truly professional. No doubt this was more expensive than other couriers, no idea as it wasn't me who paid it, but it was a pleasant change from all the other couriers who have called with goods.
