wonder what it is...and email prob

When I did a recent clean on my computer, ccleaner.com this is what came up...

C:\Documents and Settings\owner\cookies\owner@redirect.nlincs.gov[3].txt 554 bytes

what does this mean? is it that my things are being redirected to north lincs council? or they are spying on me?

Also, problem 2, on one of my email facilities, virgin media, when I go to 'inbox ' there is a huge grey square covering a large area from top of screen to third way down, and when I look at my messages, scroll, they go up behind it. I have gone into 'settings', but couldn't see what to change, and then after doing that went back to 'inbox' and the grey box had gone, but then nextime I go on it, it's back to the big grey box.! As I have quite a number of emails in my inbox could this be the reason for it?

thanks!

  • It is just a cookie which is just a small text file, you can open it in WordPad or Notepad to see its contents.

As to it's purpose, you would need to open it up to have any guess at that. Cookies can be used to track where you've been and what you're doing (subject to your privacy settings) but more often they are used for remembering things like username/password on a site (like this site uses) or the fact you said you dont want to do a survey etc.

To the email issue, what email client are you using Outlook Express? Thunderbird? or are you using webmail (ie you go get your email via Internet Explorer/ FireFox/ Chrome)?
  • the grey box sounds like it could be an advertisment that isn't loading properly so you can't se it and the [x] to close option.
  • thanks for replies...

I have internet explorer, and virgin media. Outlook express which I used to have, became migrated to virgin media mail....(and what a game I initially had with accessing the emails..3 months without owt..)

not sure its an ad? (grey box) as the options such as 'delete' and all things appertaining to the emails are written down the side of it but really spaced out within...plus no x on a box to remove it. (oh you said I'd not be able to see it the x in a box) , sorry didn't read that properly, scheming gypsy..! I get what you mean now..hmm.
