Small packet to the US query

Don't usually sell abroad but a US buyer has asked me about posting to the States.
It would be a small packet airmail service - the query is that IF the item is lost in transit can I make the 'standard' post office claim?
Is it different from the inland postal claims system?
The difference between small packets and international signed is almost a tenner extra - is this a better service to use?
I know it's a lot of 'what ifs' and i sound paranoid but thought I'd check opinions first!

If the packet is lost and you sent it RM then yes, you can make a claim - as long as value to you is less than £46.
I have recently received cheques for lost items to Italy, russian fed. and Canada with no problem...0 -
If you're paranoid about getting it there, send it by a courier. It'll cost more though. You get what you pay for.0

Do you need to use ISF? If it is under 46 pounds use air mail small packet with certificate of posting and save yourself 5 pounds.0

Cheers all, Not too worried about it getting there but wanted to clarify I can make a claim if needed.

You can claim for loss/damage with your certificate of posting for items up to £46 in value. This is for standard airmail small packets. As has been said, forget ISF it's not worth the extra.0
