Wood Stove forum?

Options
I assume there isn't one as I can't find it :o

There are quite a few posts on this topic and most seem to turn up in LPG & Heating Oil. With the ever increasing use of wood for heating I thought a dedicated forum might be a good idea?

What d'ya think? :)

I doubt there would be sufficient posts to justify and sustain a separate forum.
  • There are quite a number of posts on the topic already, scattered about various forums.

As I said, with the increasing use of wood stoves, it would make life easier for those searching for an answer on the subject. Wood hardly falls into the category of LPG & Heating Oil, well at least new wood doesn't unless it's ~350 million years old ;)

Generally the MSE team position seems to be to try to reduce the number of subboards not create more.
Perhaps they might consider renaming the LPG one to make it clearer that it also covers other forms of heating, which will hopefully then mean that more of the topics on the subject end up in a single subboard.

At maybe 50 threads a month max on the topic its not going to merit a subboard.

I would like to discuss all aspects of woodburning, ie where to get firewood, coal etc. Dont have a woodburner but just opened up our fireplace and never had one before. Think it should be in the lpg forum as suggested above with a slight name change.

Seems be fine as it is although slight name change. Others myself included have contributed to that forum and found no problem occasional there is wood burner threads in diy forum

Hope people dont buy wood burner thinking they save money Oh I fell into that trap partly although I did need some extra heating in room where burner is as radiator isnt powerful enough and no room for a bigger rad

EDIT you might save money with free wood. But you got to way up cost of stove, installation, fuel, cheap sweep once or twice a year.

    Its nice having one though

We opened fireplace for an alternative to the central heating (no gas fire) and also for the extra heat. Didnt realise how expensive wood is though and how much of it you get through. There are ways though of getting it cheap/free though, my stepdad was a roofer and his friend is on a job at the moment that has loads of timber waste so has been bringing loads home every day for my Stepdad to cut up and then give to us.

You have to be careful about what wood, ie no paint, creosote, wet wood. I do supplement mine with wood pallets but I might not be able to do that now as I got a better car and despite being careful wood bits get every where

I bought mine (in fact have two) to gain some independence from oil. I live on a relatively remote farm, no gas and in bad wintry weather very difficult to get a delivery of oil due to poor access.

I do have a 'free' supply of wood but not an infinite supply! Also invested in an hydraulic log splitter so agree, there is a considerable financial investment but when the power goes off and I am snowed in at least I am warm ;)
