Lidl often have these for sale at really good prices. And a 3 year warranty included. The last one we got also had an integrated (small, 500 watt)) fan heater which was handy if we needed a quick boost in the morning.

    Edit: Here you go:

Looks like a bargain. Is it likely to drop in price and can you collect from local stores?

So are these oil filled rads generally quite cheap to run? I assume much cheaper than an electric fan heater?

No they cost the same. They just feel better as the temperature doesn't drop quickly when they turn off due to the heat in the oil still giving out some heat for a while longer. They take a while to heat up that's why that lidl one has a fan heater to get the room temperature up quickly.

But of course when I'm working from home (2-3 days week), then using one of these in the home office as apposed to having the heating pumping throughout the house, surely that will save me a bomb in gas over winter?

No, a 2kw fan heater or 2kW oil rad will cost exactly the same to run.
Same rating, same consumption, same cost.

Although it's hard to quantify, personally I would say yes. Even at it's maximum output of 2kwh it's 20p/hour to run but these are thermostatically controlled so constantly going off them coming back on again so it will never actually cost 20p for every hour of use. It's a very neat solution for someone like yourself IMO.

    1. It is IMO (especially with the 3 year warranty included. We bought a steam generating iron from Aldi and it packed in after 2 years and 7 months. Result? They sent us a new one by courier! Tip: keep the receipt in a safe place!).

    2. No idea but I would imagine Summer would be the period where these get reduced in price.

    3. AFAIK Lidl don't do mail order so it would have to be bought from the shop. If you are travelling any distance to ring first and see if they have any in stock.

Thank you, all. I am going to ring my local Lidl and see if they have any in stock.

    Thanks once again, everyone!

Unless it is too small to heat the room when it is very cold.

We have a Delonghi 3kw for a conservatory. I would go bigger and let the rad work less.

Ours is thermostatic, has an integral 24 hr timer and you can have thee input settings.

Prefer it to the integrated fan as it creates drafts.

But AFAIK the OP isn't working in his conservatory! We all know conservatories are THE most expensive to heat rooms in a house. Unless he has a massive office 2kw will be just fine IMO. Especially with the integrated fan heater option.
