the instructions are for windows 7 but you should be able to follow the info for other operating systems

I'm beginning to think that it could be due to Network problems anyway if others are seeing the same problem

to see if there is a network problem you can use traceroute

In Windows, select Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.

Enter the word tracert, followed by a space, www.facebook.com

if the traceroute dosn't complete or there are lots of timeouts then there is a network problem which maybe on the Facebook connection nodes

also try pinging Facebook

Windows, select Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.

Enter the word ping, followed by a space, www.facebook.com if your packets are lost then again there is a network problem and you will have to wait until the network issues are resolved

My FB seems to be working on and off at the moment but is getting better and staying on for longer so the issues might be getting resolved now.

and they report that there are connectivity problems with Facebook and that they have been ongoing for about 6 hours
