Being Chased for Estage Agents Fees

  • I agree with the above suggestions - it will be in your contract to pay and albeit you chased them - as we all have too - they still conducted their business and sold your house. I would try and reach an amicable agreement regarding the interest and if you can't afford one big payment - ask if they will accept installments - as I am sure they would rather get their money than pay out for court costs - although if they win - which they probably will do - you may incur court costs too.

i really hate this 'but they sold your house you have to pay' if i asked someone to do some work for me like put in some electric sockets and it was all bodged i wouldn't pay them, why do we have to pay EAs when we are dissatisfied with the work they do for us which i personally think is very little. ive had a really hard time selling my house mainly because my EA introduced my house to the dodgiest investor in the world, i was informed by an electrician that the EA new him well and didn't like the way he did business, so why did the EA think it ok to lump this guy on us, also we nearly lost a thousand pounds because our EA doesnt know the difference between a retention on a mortgage and a down-valuation. ive learnt a huge lesson and wont be using EAs again there not worth the money or aggro

We used a local independent estate agents to sell our house which was completed in Jan 2004.

We have just arrived from a weekend away and received a notice of legal proceedings from them for £1450 (the fee) plus interest which amounts to £1300. Total £2700

When we completed we instructed the solicitor not to pay the agent as we were extremely unhappy with the service. We felt the process had not gone as smoothly as it should have done and we had to call the agents all the time, they never called us!

I sent numerous letters to the MD and called them back in early 2004 and have heard nothing until this letter.

    Any advice?

    Thanks

Its all down to the contract. You employed them to market and sell your house, I suspect nothing in the contract refers to sales progression competence.

How would you feel if the person you give your services to (ie your employer) withheld your wages?
