Hi Andrew. FYI Traders Own offer a Stocks & Shares ISA, no fees, you simply pay £9 per trade for every stock you purchase in the ISA wrapper. You also earn a free equity unit (converts into shares in Traders Own Plc) with every trade. Info here http://www.tradersown.co.uk/sharedea...wn_isa_54.html
  • Hi thanks for quick responses.

No mortgage, £60k in premium bonds, 2 years of ISA, private pension. Ideally looking for something that i can just put the money aide and leave alone with no involvement

If you are likely to need all the money in 3-5 years I would suggest fixed term savings accounts. Its too short a period to be reasonably sure of making a profit, or even not making a loss, with shares. What you could do is to split the £50K into 3 and take out 1,2, and 3 year fixed term deposits. Then, as each matures take out another 3 year one. In that way you have £16K accessible each year but still get the advantages of the longer term..

However £50K is a lot of money. Your £60K in premium bonds is a very poor investment. So assuming you are of an age where long term investing is sensible, I suggest you look at earmarking some of the £110K for that, perhaps putting £10K/year into an S&S ISA. Alternatively or additionally it's a big enough pot to make a chat with an IFA worthwhile.
  • how did you get 60K in premium bonds....................

I presume it is held half with a spouse or partner?

I agree that this is a poor investment and would consider moving 50K of that with the other 50K into fixed term deposits. Unless we all feel that NSI may open new ILSCs in the new year so I might wait for then and invest up to the max in those before putting the rest into fixed term deposits.
