What is the difference between Malwarebyte, Superantispyware and Spywareblaster? It seems the first two are more comprehensive in what they do.
In my old laptop i had all three installed but in my msconfig/startup it remove the tick for superantispyware so it does not load up when i switch on the laptop.
I was thinking of installing malwarebyte and spywareblaster. Malwarebyte tends to get good reviews here.
Any advice?
Thanks

Spywareblaster blocks malware domains in Internet Explorer and Firefox. It also has a "restricted sites" list - I'm not sure whether that uses the hosts file (or something similar) to block any access to a malware domain, or whether it just blocks access via either of the supported web browsers. Anyway, once you've run it and applied the blocklists you can close it down so it isn't running on your PC and you will still be protected. But it can't scan for or delete installed malware; it only blocks domains.
The free version of Antimalware (by MalwareBytes), on the other hand, will scan for and remove malware once it's already on your sytem. The premium version gives you malicious site protection (presumably a bit like Spywareblaster does) and allows you to schedule scans and updates.
I've never used Superantispyware, so can't comment on that...0 -
Deciding which one is best is difficult because they all do more or less the same job and as with other security programs, opinions/preferences may vary. All of those programs have their worth. Perhaps best to weigh up not only the opinions given here but also those given in other security forums across the Internet. Read a number of reviews about the programs. It all helps form an opinion about which one you think is right for you.
My own preference is for Malwarebytes' AntiMalware Pro. This is based on research and personal experience. The realtime monitoring of Malwarebytes Pro hasn't conflicted with my other security measures so far and it has blocked a few sites during general browsing that it considers potentially malicious. I'm inclined to believe the judgement because of the good reputation Malwarebytes has.
I tend to have an occasional read about security programs and would re-evaluate if thought necessary.Error! - Keyboard not attached. Press any key to continue.0 -

Being a cheapskate, I use a combination of free programs. Hopefully if one program doesn't block the malware another one will! And since I started using antiviruses and anti-malware products in the late-90s, I've only had one infection (damned Xupiter toolbar!). Anyway, this is what I use (all free):- Avira AntiVir (will probably change to a different antivirus program soon as the 2012 edition isn't compatible with some other anti-malware software [can't remember which ones])
- Comodo Firewall (don't like it, but it's the best there is)
- Spybot - Search & Destroy (blocks malware domains and scans for & removes malware)
- Spywareblaster
- Malwarebytes' Antimalware
- SecuniaPSI (scans your PC for outdated software and vulnerabilities)

avira 2012 is not compatible with spybot these days...it#s a shame, as there are still some useful features in spybot that I like, but as you I'm on avira on this pc at the mo.
p.s. I haven't tried the super-latest version of spybot yet...might be on the list for tonight......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

I *think* that I remember reading that it's because Avira now blocks the Hosts file and so conflicts with Spybots 'Immunize' feature.
It can be un-ticked from Avira- Expert mode configure/General/Security.

Never has it picked any before, or am I just being targetted at present?0
