Should a refund on a cancelled subscription take this long?

                    Hi
I took out a trial subscription for an I.T. magazine where you get the first three for a £1, then you pay £19.99 for the next batch of 6 issues unless you cancel.
I work in a School I.T. Dept and the school offered to take on the subscription. So I had to cancel my Direct Debit first and the School has to start a new order.
However, I was just a bit late in cancelling the subscription and, of course, the DD went out. (The date the cancellation had to be made by was unclear). I contacted the company to cancel on the7th Nov and then emailed them on the 15th to ask when I could expect the refund into my bank account. They replied today and said it would be within 28 days!!
This seems way too long. Is this right? Can I do anything about it?
Thanks.

If you were late cancelling then you're probably fortunate to be getting a refund at all. Just forget about it and chalk it up to experience.0

I would expect that to be fine. Under things like DSR the retailer has 30 days to refund so this does not seem unreasonable (especially given your contribution to the late cancelling of the service).Thinking critically since 1996....0
