Temptation...

We basically got into most of our 'debt mess' by taking out credit but sometimes when you're sitting there... don't you just have the urge to take out a credit card... I've been having the urge today.. I havent because I know I don't need it and it's stupid but it's like staring through the window of a sweet shop sometimes...

    Oh Matt .....

Glad you suppressed the urge today! ;)

Perhaps next time instead of thinking of applying for a new credit card, have a cup of tea instead and think of a new MSE thing to do ;)

Or, turn the urge on its head! Think of which one of your existing card to cut up!

    All the best.

    Matt,

We're all on this thread because at one time or another we've all had the urge. I got an extra £50 on Saturday and even though the sensible part of me knew that I HAD to pay it off my debt, the wreckless part of me really really wanted to blow it.

I logged onto DFW when I got the urge and luckily it passed.

Glad you've done the same. You don't need the card it will just cause you more problems in the long-term.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Paying off my debt is soooo hard. Its a great feeling/relief when you pay something off and realise you've got one debt less to deal with, but its an even better feeling spending money (even if its money that doesn't belong to you). I find it really really hard most days.
  • It really is hard. The worst bit is when you spend some money and then feel crappy later on. Try and buy things that you can take back I suppose :)

I've got to the point where I just don't want to buy anything now - I feel like I've been de-consumerised. I just want to get on with my life now...

I can't believe how obsessed I've become with money since joining this site. I get really p'd off if I spend more than 50p per day. I'm constantly looking for bargains in the supermarket and paying stupid amounts off credit card to bring it down..... I WILL GET THERE

You could try setting your self a lot of short term goals and rewarding yourself in some way when you achieve them. That way you might not feel so under privilidged?

    You will, rest assured.

I like the concept of de-consumerising. In fact, I LOVE it! So much modern woe because we are all encouraged to consume, over consume and then some!!!! (In the process of doing so, destroying our environment too.)

Female members of my mother's side of the family are all addicted to shopping/consuming. I had that trait too but thankfully managed to get rid of it - that was before joining this site. MSE gives me the impetus to go completely against said trait and I feel so empowered. Hope some of you fellow peeps feel the same!
