At full time college - Need a job. Ideas?

I'm 17 and currently at college full time. I'm studying level 2 CACHE childcare.
I got to placement every Tuesday and Wednesday and
don't finish until 3-4pm.

I have been job hunting for about 9 months now but I haven't had any luck.
I'm not really allowed to do any baby sitting or odd jobs because people aren't too nice around my area.

I had an idea of doing crafts.
I make little hair clips and wanted to start making cards and gift bags ect...

I would like ideas either on jobs or how to get a job.
Thanks.

Evening work such as a cleaner, working in a bar, cinema/theatre, etc. You will probably also have to look outwith your immediate area.

Crafts are great, but few people manage to make a livable income off them. They are really more of a hobby until you can at least put in the time, effort and money to really make it worthwhile.

I'm getting a strong sense of deja vu round this one!
  • With crafts,I don't wanna do it as a full time thing. Just to earn a little bit extra.
And I will defiantly look out for those kind of jobs.
At this point I'm willing to do anything (Within reason lol)

and it probablly is da javu because i had another account on here but i can't get onto it.
i've forgotten my password or username :(

  • Once you're 18, hospitality agencies may take you on if you can come up with something that looks like experience. My "experience" was making a few sandwiches and cups of instant coffee at my sport's club's annual nine-day competition. All of a sudden, on my CV, I was a catering assistant at [name of sports club], with duties entailing food preparation, cash handling, maintaining cleanliness, customer service etc.

The advantage of hospitality agencies? They're often not that fussed about who they take on (they tend to give you some training), you can tell them when you're available to work, and once you have experience with them other employers will look on you much more favourably. It's how I started in the industry, and I've worked everywhere from super-posh weddings in Devon to bars at horse races, and in Australia (the latter wasn't through an agency). A little more than a year on, I can pretty much walk into any hospitality job, which is a very useful source of income for this rather skint student!
  • Oh cool that seems like a good thing to do.
I have some experience with preparing basic food, serving drinks and
cleaning up (I do this a lot in my placement at nursery).
    I will do that when I'm 18.

People where you live might not be nice, but where the nice people live I bet they've got a shortage of babysitters. If somebody's desperate for a babysitter then they'll pick them up and drop them off afterwards up to quite a few miles. What's it like within 5 miles of you?

You only need 1-2 bookings, then you can start to ask them to tell their friends about you.
  • As was said at length on your earlier thread, for someone on a childcare course to rule out babysitting is absolute madness. You have a marketable skill and the experience would enhance your CV, which other jobs won't do.
  • Well i personally would baby sit but its my parents , i know im 17 and almost an adult but my
parents are like "Your in our house and our rules stay.
