Sony quote around 30,000 hours for the bulb, that's around 3.5 years of leaving it on 24 hours a day. I think people are more likely use it for around 4-5 hours a day tops though.0 -
if you do a search for it, you will find that it does have an HDMI input and its a DLP rear projection tv not one of the old rear projection tv's. They only have one bulb were the old ones have three bulbs.
They can also sit on any tv stand as the bulb is in the tv as the old ones have all there bulbs in the stand. You can also get the bulbs delivered for about £80-£90 from ebay. I have had one for about 3 years now with no probs. If the bulb does go, get a new one and you have a new tv. If a plasma breaks down you might as well take it to the tip. As for LCD when I got my 42" LG DLP you could not get an LCD that big and the prices at that time were a joke. I paid £1300 for my DLP, but if I have £1300 in my pocket now, yes I would buy a LCD, but if I only had £600 and wanted a big screen I would go for a DLP over a Plasma any day.0 -

It's a 3LCD set not a DLP, manufacturers claim that 3LCD has some benefits over DLP.

I've got the 50" version of this TV and think it's the best picture I've seen for a sub £1500 box. All my mates have expensive plasmas and are shocked by how good the picture is compared to theirs.
For that price I'd be tempted if I didn't have mine already.0 -
Seems to have been some negative comments about this set, but I really do believe it is a good deal.
The depth of the set (40cm) is really not too deep at all. It is only an issue if you want to mount the tv on the wall. If you use a stand you would never notice that it is deeper. It is nowhere near as deep as the 32" CRT it replaced.
I use mine with a home theatre PC, which displays a cracking picture, as I said in my first post more pleasing to my eyes than any plasma or LCDs that I have seen so far. Yes it does have an HDMI socket.
To get a comparable picture, you would need to spend at least £900 on a 42" plasma or LCD
The technology is not going out of the window - Do not confuse this set with a CRT rear projector. They were not in the same league as the new ones.
Viewing angle is smaller on rear pros, but I have only really noticed it when I am standing up. Since I normally sit down when watching TV I do not find it a problem.
As far as I am concerned there is nothing close to it at the price it is at the moment - I considered buying one at a grand!
Have a look on AVforums for any more info about picture quality etc0 -
I think people are getting confused with the old plasma technology (chunky, not very bright etc) which is NOTHING like this stuff!!
Great price imo.0 -
Hi
I also have the 50" version of this tv, its a great set and angle of viewing is superb, in fact picture quality (in my opinion) is at its optimum sitting at a 45% angle (softens and takes the edge off lcd picture when sitting directly infront).
At this price you cant go far wrong (If you want extended cover, 5 years inc. bulb cover check out the john lewis website, they also pricematch genuine website deals!)
Its a sony, go for it!
Cheers:beer:

stevieboy24 wrote:With LCD and plasmas plummeting in price I wouldn't buy a rear projection - not saying the new ones are bad quality but it's purely the width of them. Also from the ones I've seen if you are sitting at a bit of an angle to the TV then the picture looks dark/fuzzy. But that's just my opinion.
Haven't seen this particular model, and wouldn't wish to get into an argument on the pros/cons of DLP versus 3LCD (though given Sony have ploughed money into 3LCD I think there's a certain amount of "well they would say that" to be borne in mind regards the presentation reference elsewhere in this thread). However, viewed side by side the Samsung DLPs I've seen have a considerably better picture than plasmas/LCDs at a much better price per size.
I've got an LCD for the bedroom, but when it comes to getting a big screen for my living room, I'll definitely be going for DLP. LCD/plasmas are ok if you wish to hang them on a wall, but to do so involves reconfiguring your room and (to do it properly) chasing out plasterwork to hide the wiring.I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0
