Sound anaylsis website?

Is there a website where you can play an unidentified sound (not song) and it will analyse it and say what it is please?

TIA

if you have an iPad (like your username) download Shazam and SoundHound, or if you have any kind of smart or feature phone (android, iOS, symbian, windows phone) you can likely download those apps on them too.

EDIT, oops I misread, these apps look for songs not unknown sounds
  • Thanks anyway Jayme, anyone else please?

Can you give an example of the type of sound?

If for example you had a 2kHz tone, I'd say it would not be hard to recognise it for what it is. DTMF dialling on phone networks does essentially that.

If you have the sound of a cow mooing then I'd say it's too hard a computational task to be done for free (or even at cost) on a website.

I've got to ask: what do you want to use this for?
