For some time I used a pair of wired headphones for the same reason as yourself. Because of the way they were wired, I was able to use the headphones and the TV sound simultaneously and it worked very well - other people in the room could hear the speaker while I could get some extra volume via the headphones. When I tried a wireless pair, I found that they introduced a lag - the headphone sound was slightly behind the speaker, giving an echo effect that was very distracting. If you want to do something like this, I suggest a pair of full-ear headphones that isolate you completely from the TV speaker.0
