Fan oven temperature

I have an oven which is probably about 6-8 years old. It's a Fogh SS (A0900-31) Gunkol [or Gunkel] fan oven.
I'm not convinced that I'm getting the right temperature in the oven. You have to have the fan on when using the oven, but it seems as though the temperature inside the oven is lower than shown on the dial.
For example, at the weekend I cooked at what should have been 180deg according to the dial, and it appeared to have reached that temperature because the little red light clicked off. However, I have an oven thermometer from Lakeland which only indicated about 160deg.
Is this to be expected in an fan oven, or is something likely to be wrong?

Fan ovens cook more evenly as they circulate the air.
Older fan ovens I have had and recipes adjustment notes have usually suggested setting the dial at 10 degrees below that for a standard oven, as described in the recipe.
I have recently installed anew one and it suggests setting it 20 degree lower than the recipe.
In your example I would expect the oven to be giving at least 180 degrees if that is what it is set too.
That said if the oven is constantly cycling on/off (leaking more heat/poor seal) then it may result in a lower temperature. 20 degrees isn't a massive amount and could be down to the quality of switch and the way it is mounted in the cabinet.
It maybe the Lakeland thermometer is out too. If both are a bit wrong then 20 degrees seems possible.
With our old oven that was temperamental and the reason for change, but it still worked and I compensated for it."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

as above.
unless you have access to a calibrated thermometer you cannot be sure if the readings are accurate.
a 10 degree error in both devices will easy give you the faulty reading.
oven temps are rarely what they say they are. certainly not very accurate.Get some gorm.0 -
Thanks, both. My mind's at ease a little more. Just have to keep an eye on it when cooking things and perhaps consider replacing the door seal if I can find one.0
