Painting over gloss on walls????

Hi all
I've recently moved into an old house and some bright spark painted a very small 'boiler room' with dark blue gloss paint! What do I have to do to paint over it sucsessfully?

Any tips greatfully recieved, thankyou,

Sounds fab! I would have thought if the surface is sound, then a light sanding before emulsioning over the top - a few coats needed though if you want to lighten it up?

as above , but give walls an undercoat 1st or primer http://www.zinsseruk.com/shop/Product.aspx?cId=130&pgId=355, then emulsion

I was the idiot who glossed my sons walls dark blue for a space theme when he was 3. Hes now 16 and naturally felt it required redoing.

I sanded it down, removing the planets that I had glued on, and painted it with two coats of pale blue emulsion.

The only problem area was Saturns rings which I didnt sand enough, and the paint doesnt show through, its the glue, which we will all have to live with!

DIY places have base coats designed to cover gloss to prep them for re-painting. Not particulalrly cheap though.

I saw a specialist paint shop so popped in and asked the nice men behind the counter for some advice as I was passing. They said there was a special undercoat for the job but it ws £24 for a small tin but if I lightly sanded and then sugar soaped the walls that I could just use normal undercoat, (loads cheaper). So thats what I've done. They suggested that I leave the undercoat to go hard for a few days before I emulsion so thats where I'm at now. Will report back when I've emulsioned. Hopefully it'll help someone else in the future.
    Thankyou for all your suggestions.
