the arrear came about during the last year of my employement in my previous job, this is when i had to resign due to stress and depression, i do want to pay i am not just a deadbeat dad, i just want a more manageable way of doing it.
when i started work again 5 months ago i rang the csa and told them i had a new job, they said that they be in contact, this letter recevied the other day telling me that they a deducting from earnings is the first letter i have recevied from them
You are,I'm afraid Cameron said we all are :eek:0 -
yeah same guy everytime, also asked to speak to his boss today, still no luck0

Apply for it then. You should get some housing benefit unless you also get the maximum working tax credits available to you.i dont recevie housing benifit my rent is 400 a month:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

You need to negotiate with the PWC if this is causing you hardship. You would if the PWC refuses be better off not working. Silly but true. Minimum wage is £228 per week after tax thats £200 per week after 40% deducted that's £120 per week after your travel costs of £42.50 per week are deducted leaves you with £77.50 plus a small amount of housing benefit and working tax credit. JSA is £67.50 a week plus full housing benefit and council tax benefit.
A tenner a week plus rent and council tax arrears accruing to boot. Oh jeeez! No wonder nobody wants a job!
If your analysis is accurate, these politicians need to do something before the whole country is out of a job. six-figure expenses? they seem to change the rules to please themselves.0 -
Hope someone can help.
I have recently found out that i have arrears of £1706 with the CSA and they are going to take £80 from my wages a week. Thats £320 a month.
i am on minium wage with rent to pay and transport to work which costs me £170 pm. so with the CSA taking this amount of money from me i will not be able to travel to work therefore lose my job.
Now i have had a running battle with a CSA advisor called Ross, he is adament that i have to pay this amount, that he can not decrease my payments without me making a lump some payment of half my debt.
There has to be a away for me to pay a more manage amount to them with this lump some.
Also this is right before Christmas, if this goes ahead my children will get nothing for xmas at all.
Did you say that you have a child living with you? Is this child taken into account in your assessment?
The CSA have a duty to ensure that all arrears are cleared as quickly as possible, but ultimately they also have some leeway when it comes to what to set the DEO at.
If they've imposed a DEO it means that you've either not set up a direct debit with them, or you've been non-compliant with them in the past, this is why they are now deducting the money at source. It also means they're less likely to accept lower than 40% of your net income. I would ask to speak to a team leader, if you request this then 'Ross', or someone on his team, has to get their line manager to call you back within 2 working days. Maybe if you offered to pay £60 per week? I know that it doesn't sound so different, but that would mean you'll have an extra £85 a month or so for yourself.0 -
Go to CAB. They will do a financial statement for you. They did this for us and rang CSA with an offer we could afford which was accepted. Or if they cant reduce the repayment amount to the CSA they might be able to do it on a non priority debt to free up some cash for the CSA. Good Luck.0

Do you have other kids at home?
If you do you need to argue that the payments will cause undue hardship for your children. Ask to pay by standing Order so you can manage the payments yourself.
Ring the main switchboard at the CSA, I did and I got a really helpful guy who told me what to say to my husbands caseworker to get the arrears payments over a longer period of time. If the guy you are currently dealing with is arrogant and unhelpful (which a lot of them are) ask to speak to someone else and lodge a complaint about him.
Write to your local MP and get the ball rolling there too, they can help and have helped in other cases.
Good Luck!0 -
when i could see her and what i could with her, when i was unemployed before i was only able to afford a one bedroom bedsit that her mum would refuse to let her stay in, at the min i have an amazing relationship with her, she spend most weekends with
Can i ask a question, have you noticed the CSA that you have your daughter for 2/7 nights, this will reduce the amount you pay by 2/7ths....!
Also, as others have said, make sure you are assessed correctly and they are aware you have another child living with you, as that will reduce your assessable income by 15% only leaving 85% assessable and then 2/7ths removed for the nights she stays with you...0 -
thanks to everyones great advice, i once again spoke to Ross you came back now with an offer of a lump some payment of £300 and he could reduce my payment to £27 pm (strange fiqure i know) so luck for me i have a good boss who values me, he is lending me the £300 which will be paid bak over the course of the next months.
As i tell everyone, When the CSA do there jobs right they do it good, but the system is broken and something needs done badly, it is ok imposing these harsh charge on dad who dont give a dam about the kids they have, but fathers like me, who do care and have a special bond with there childeren shouldnt suffer this. I pitty any person out there with a vendictive ex cos between them and the CSA could ruin them.
Lucky for me when i explained the situation to my ex, she thought it was outrageous, the a organisation for childern would directly damage the welfare of a child they are ment to protect, so she has decided not to deal with the CSA anymore and she said she is going to tell them we have a private arrangement in place. Dont know why we didnt do this when my daughter was born, but we where advised wrongly i suppose.
Well a big thank you to all of you out there who tried to help, being on this forum has really showed me the world is a good place, no doubt you will be helping me on other topics now, lol0 -

Good luck mate.
Once you've got your private agreement in place, ask your ex to call the csa to confirm that she will be collecting the arrears privately from you, and they will suspend the debt and cancel the DEO. She'll still need to tell them when you have paid off the debts that accrued while collections were going through the CSA, as they don't have the power to wipe off money unless both parties agree its been paid.
It's also worth giving them a ring yourself once you start paying the private agreement, to ensure they've set your case as maintenance direct on their system, this will prevent having to pay twice!
There is some good advice about private agreements on the Child Maintenance Options site, unfortunately I'm on my phone so can't easily paste a link here, but google it and get reading!0
