New line installation - who?

Currently with BT, out of contract and moving at the end of the end of the month. I need a landline for broadband. I'm a heaver user that requires some specific features so already have a provider in mind, who requires a BT (line doesn't have to be with BT though) based landline

The current tennant has a Virgin Media phone line in, which is no good for me.

So far i've looked at the following:

Primus - £59.99 installation - £8.99 monthly
Vivaciti - £70 installation - £11.40 monthly
Coop - £60 installation - £11.69 monthly
Post office - £60 installation - £12.25 monthly
BT - £30 installation - £13.90 monthly (and going up)

Are there any other likely candidates for new line installation?

Are you sure it's a VM cable line, not a Virgin National ADSL line? if the latter, no install is required.
Otherwise do an exchange search on https://www.samknows.com and look for your LLU options.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Yes its definitely VM Cable line as the number does not show up on any of the line checkers. I used a service checker, which told me it's virgin.

I know my LLU options, but that doesn't help I don't want an LLU line (e.g on Tiscali or whoever else's network etc..) I want a BT based line which all of the above provide. I was just wondering if i'm missing any major or quality players out.

Have you looked at deals that discount the installation charge if you also take broadband?
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

You are certainly not 'out of contract', this continues as long as the service is provided. If you are looking for a temporary service with a service requirement of 2 months or less, wireless (either dongle.MiFi) can give you 12Gb for £49, which may be a viable alternative as if used up it can be renewed with a replacement SIM at the same cost, and if it isn't the allocation isa a useful back up and is valid for 12 months.

This is from 3UK, but you have to check that the coverage is acceptable. Other networks may be better if there's an issue, however the pricing will be greater.

Confused. My BT service has been cancelled (order has gone through). In fact they owe me money as I was overpaying. I have been with them for over 2 years.

Thanks, but as stated in the opening post, I have already chosen my broadband provider (for a variety of reasons).

I am merely asking which over companies that provide a telephone line service (which is not LLU) are out there for consideration?

    Thanks

if you can afford it pay bt £120 for a line advance deal, its £10 a month including free evening and weekend
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I would need to pay £127 for installation then, as the £30 installation offer only applies if you take a certain call package and make so many calls.

    I have chosen Co-op instead.

Everyone has to take out a call package (it's part of the line rental) and the calls you are required to make can be inclusive ones - so cost nothing.

So you take the Unlimited Weekend Calls Plan and make 10 call per month. As suggested many times before, 10 x 10 second calls to a geographical number for the speaking clock (020 7043 1320) would cover than in less than 2 minutes one weekend each month.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Yes but i'd need to buy a phone in order to do that.

The telephone line is for broadband only.

I get what you are saying though

I like the look of the Co-operative phone company, and find some pleasure in supporting Co-operatives and social enterprises. In any case it's been ordered now.

You can buy a corded handset for less than a fiver-or probably 50p at a car boot sale. Or free on freegle.
