Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -

CD? Pendrive?
Does the HD get picked up by the bios? Is it listed in the boot order?
Do you have the XP CD available, if so, and if the HD is seen by the bios, try rebooting with the CD, go into recovery console, and do a chkdsk c: /F/R
If it is not seen by the bios, try reseating the hd.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
how do i restart the hard drive?0

reseat?... usually by undoing a screw on the bottom or side, and taking it out, and putting it back in again.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

It may well be a HDD failure on its way or the MBR is up the duff
Boot with the XP installation CD.
When prompted, press R to repair a Windows XP installation.
If repairing a host with multiple operating systems, select the appropriate one (XP) from the menu. If you have only one operating system, enter 1 to select it.
Enter the administrator password if prompted.
To fix the MBR, use the following command:
fixmbr
This assumes that your installation is on the C:\ drive. You will be presented with several scary warning lines the reading of which will make you want to say no. Microsoft is exceptionally vague regarding the conditions under which fixmbr can cause problems although they are clear about the consequences (losing all data on the hard drive), so use this at your own risk.
Type y and ENTER to fix the MBR.
Type exit to leave the recovery console and reboot.0 -
Or it could be because the OP dropped the laptop from a bed as stated in their first post :rolleyes:0

I see what you mean:
"Hello, is there a different way of charging a laptop because when i was charging the original way it fell off the bed and every time i try to charge now sparks fly out."
You'd have thought it would be critical to mention as being possibly related."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

If the laptop was dropped whilst switched on, it is highly likely the hard drive "heads" have crashed onto and damaged the recording surface.
Hope you've got some back-ups of your data.
Couldn't see any reference to dropping as mentioned by Edinburglass

I've quoted it in my post above."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
