Good time to buy shares in Lloyds?

I'm overweight in financials currently.
This is it, I'm not sure what I'd buy instead! I think I'd end up keeping it in cash for the time being, until something came along. And really, cash is something I want to avoid atm, I've got enough to live on for a few months, and don't want anymore.
I thought about dipping my toe into Barclay's after their recent battering but I think the risk of there still being skeletons in the closet is too high. Probably just stick with Lloyds; when dividends do eventually restart I'll be getting decent income.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Resources, Europe, EM. But it's true, not many bargains around at the moment.
I sold out of LLOY a few months ago when I'd roughly doubled my money. I'd have hung on longer but I'm holding a lot of bank paper inclduing Lloyds preference shares.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

I was absolutely staggered by the figure they have had to pay out in PPI compensation - did everyone in the country except me make a claim?
Surely there were some people who actually chose to have it off their own bat?
Hopefully that is behind them now and they can get back to paying dividends.:)Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

I thought I was the only one not to buy PPI, or extended warrenties.0 -
I now regret selling some of my LBG at 59p, was hoping the price would drop sub 65p so I could buy back in but that's looking unlikely in the short term.
Should have listened to my own advice when I replied to some scaremongers on another thread and said I thought there was more chance LBG would hit 75p this year than 25p (it was 50p then).
I feel I want to buy back in as long term I think there is every chance LBG could hit £2.00 in a couple of years for a near 200% return. Its just a case of timing, I think ill wait till they drop below 70p.
Im loathe to sell my remaining as sods law dictates if I do they'll hit 90p in a couple of months.0 -
I bought in 2009 and have no intention of selling. Once they start paying dividends again the masses will pile back in!0

As an x staff member who built up £50K in Lloyds shares, only to see that turn into £3000 in 2008, I can now report that today I have broken even after many years of waiting.
I am going to hold on to every one of the shares until they get to £2, then sell half, take a world cruise or 2, and then I will sell half again at £3, with another couple of extravagant holidays, keeping my last quarter to pass on to my nearest and dearest.
And they will achieve that, even if I have to wait until im 500 years old.0 -

Short of a consolidation I think £2 is a long, long way off. Sorry!
Glad you've finally broken even though“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
Very tempted to sell now that I've doubled my money but I'm going to continue to hold. I purchased the shares as a cheap punt on future dividends and I'm trying not to loose sight of that.0
