Wifes got depression can we cancel holiday and claim on insurance

We have booked a family cruise at the end of January for me my wife and our 3 children , however my wife is badly suffering from post natal depression , depression and anxiety disorder in which these last couple of months she has been suffering very badly , she is currently on medication and she has a psyciatric nurse that visits every 2 weeks and she goes and see's a psyciatric doctor every 3 months along with having therapy sessions every 2 weeks

We booked the holiday in April this year , my wife was diagnosed in June / July but we thought that she would get better but instead she's got alot worse over the last few months , the holiday cost £2300 and so far we have only paid the deposit of £700 , we have just got our letter stating we have to pay the remaining £1600

My wife is in no fit state to go away on holiday as she wont leave the house with anxiety and is suffering badly at the moment , ive asked her about the holiday and she says she doesn't feel well enough in herself to go so rather than go and it be an unhappy time for us all we've decided not to go now.

We have travel insurance with our bank ( Natwest ) so would we be covered to claim beck part of the £700 deposit we paid out

You can claim for cancellation charges provided your policy covers cancellation and you comply with the policy ts +cs (these may include you needing a medical certificate). So check up on your policy wording over how to claim.
  • You will need to check the policy wording as depression can be an excluded condition on insurance policies. She would certainly need the doctor to confirm in writing that she is medically unfit to travel.
  • I will check the insurance , the doctor would be able to confirm in writing that she is unfit at the moment to travel / go on holiday

    Thanks

This may not be acceptable. They will want a cert to say she is unfit to travel on the trip you have booked (ie not that she is unfit "at the moment")

It cost me £50 to get a Doctor's letter for the Travel Insurance claim, when I got a DVT and was unable to travel on a pre-booked holiday.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
