Which TV?

Hi

Looking for advice before I buy a new Tv.

I would like a 26" LED but would go for slightly smaller if budget won't stretch to what is best. Budget £300.

Needs to be used as a Pc monitor as well as a tv. As this is a purchase which will hopefully last I want to get it right.

Not sure if I should be looking for full hd or is hd ready ok? Like the idea of the smart tv but if I'm plugging in pc is this pointless? Some have 3d which appeals to me but do I then need to buy a 3d DVD player?

Answers to the above and suggestions on brand/model would be much appreciated.

Thanks:T

Have you experienced the whole 3d experience at a cinema, i have and to be honest i dont like the cinema experience and im not that bothered with it. I believe that yes you would need to buy a 3d capable dvd player or they might be blu ray players.
  • I feel getting a 3D TV is costlier. You have to buy 3D wearing glasses too....for every one who watches the TV at that time.

I personally feel LED TVs are Good. They will consume less power and the rays from them will not affect our eyes.

They are not LED TV's they are LED backlit TV's. True OLED TV's are rare and costly.

You can probably do bigger than 22 on £300. To help you decide though, definitely go for 1080 if you're using it with your computer. Don't know what screen you're using with your computer now, but this is far better resolution than 720 would be. How are you connecting your computer - HDMI, DVI or VGA? Make sure the TV you get has the right connections. I wouldn't be bothered about LED backlit to be honest. Just because a TV has an LED sticker on it, doesn't make it thinner, consume less, or have a better picture. Those are generalisations. Look at the picture (and listen to the sound) for yourself rather than being convinced that something's better because it says LED on it! 3D is a waste IMO, and especially so at a small screen size. The point is that it's meant to be immersive, and you'd have to be really close to a 22" TV for that! Yes you would need a 3d capable Blu-Ray disk player (not DVD). PS3 is a 3D Blu-Ray player BTW.
Lastly, Freeview HD would be a really good idea, but seriously consider going bigger if you can!
  • I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with the 3D on my LED TV and am glad it has it but use it exceptionally rarely and would also agree with others that it really is dependent on your screen size, even our 40" is not as convincing as a friends 50+" screen.

I wouldn't buy a TV for it and given a limited budget I would think other things are much more important, with what I was fortunate enough to have all the screens came with 3D anyway.

You need a 3D compatible source to watch material recorded in 3D but most TVs do have the capability to turn normal 2D tv into 3D but the effect is more subtle and I imagine the level of ability varies more between sets
