A nice easy question for all you geniuses.
I'm growing spuds in a bin this year and I've put some bottles in the bottom to aid drainage, drilled some holes in the base and half filled it with compost. Do I need to do anything else (apart from plant the spuds obviously) ?

Just remember to top up the compost as the plants grow, it will support the stems, feed the potato plants (they are greedy feeders) and encourage more tubers to grow.
Good luck - there are no tastier and fresher potatoes than home grown! If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

Put in lots of good quality - rotted manure in the bottom - pots are very hungry and need all the nutrients they can get'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' : Member number 632

I was watching Janie at home the other night and grew spuds in just a bag of compost and cut the top off and made some splits lower down to put the starter spuds into the bag ?

Manure needs a year of rotting down before you can use it, stick it in your compost bin.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
