  • To catch any you see, use a strip of sellotape, keep one handy on the edge of the desk or wherever

You can also use this on the cat - very carefully - fold the sellotape backwards so the sticky side is outwards, part cat's fur and if you see one on the skin (not the hairs), press the sticky fold onto the flea

We had a problem one summer years back and this helped a lot. We wondered why the neighbours had a bonfire at night - they told us later they had accidentally left the heating on while on holiday and had to get rid of the carpets as they were jumping when they got back

This is going to sound really daft but .. were the fleas a bit dopey?
Sometimes the flea treatment takes a bit of time to take effect. The eggs still hatch but the young fleas are affected by the treatment and do die before they lay more eggs
I go into empty houses that have been fumigated for fleas and often will get a few jumping onto me but they are very dozy and easy to catch and squash ...:o
  • It takes most things 24-48 hrs to kill the adults and they can appear dopey before they die.

Basically, I they are in good health you haven't a hope of catching them!

what I think it wrong is the advert on Frontline packet - kills fleas 100% within 24hrs as this gives an impression that once you dose your cat with it, problems solved in a day. It'll take about 3 months to solve it due to the life cycle of the critters! That said, I think we're getting on top of the problem. No new bites on me (!) and the cats seem to be scratching less. There's still some flea dirt evident in the bedding so will have to keep on with the cleaning, but I have not seen a live flea for about a week now.

Indorex's profits must be up! Vet said they were selling about 6 cans a day insted of the usual 1 every 3 months!!!!

My two pups caught flea's last weekend. After reading posts about Frontline not working, I ordered Advantage & Indorex online but while I was awaiting delivery I called straight into the vet and bought Frontline Combo which the vet recommended. I was very surprised that the pups have still been scratching and biting, although not as much. I washed all beds and blankets, hovered right through twice daily and have been combing the pups daily but had not caught any live fleas until 2 days ago, although thankfully there was only two. I have been scratching my head all weekend thinking I have caught them, they don't half make you itch! I was expecting them to be dead within 24 hours as stated on the Frontline packet but it doesnt stop the dogs bringing them in from the garden?

How can you tell the difference between flea dirt and muck? The pups run all over in the garden so I'm sure it's just muck Im finding on their stomach, there is nothing in their coat but just want to be sure it's definitely not flea dirt.

I have had 3 dogs for the past 18 year and they only caught flea's once which was about 8 year ago so it's all new to me again I treated them with Frontline spray and it worked but now that the fleas seem to be immune to Frontline, I've decided to try Advantage which I will apply next month - it also has 4 months protection whereas Frontline is only 1 months protection?

I noticed while looking to order Indorex online that it was out of stock on most websites. I have managed to order 4 tins to do for next year too and now that website is out of stock, it's selling like hot cakes!
A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.
  • Have you tried Avon soft and fresh dry oil spray? It works well as a repellent. You can dilute it, and spray it regularly on their bedding etc as well as using it on animals. It isn't an offensive smell!

In an extreme case like this, I would suggest putting the cats in a room (preferably tiled floor). Get a spray to treat other rooms of the house while they are shut away, and treat the cats with something of your choice while still in that room. I think they are surviving because there is a small space where they are being missed ie floor boards as suggested and then they just spread all over again. They are horrendous.
Still looking for the plot...... Anyone seen it???

    Hi all,

    I thought i would update.

Finaly it was stopped with stronghold, another special spray, full further hot wash of all fabrics, steam clean of carpet and injectable flea treatment. Phew.

Also in the end Berts manic scratching lumps out of himself was that he was alergic fish of all things.

    :D

Thanks for updating Tygermoth. I once moved into an infested house and had the professionals in three times (twice free) before it was clear. It's disappointing your vet took so long to identify that there is resistance to Frontline.
