Flicking through the gash that comes with the Sunday paper, I've just seen a 'Record Player' that you can use to record onto a USB memory stick, and then use it on your PC to download onto a CD. It's £120.
I've loads of Albums from the 70s & 80s, in particular, that I'd LOVE on CD :j - never thought it was worth buying them again! - and was wondering if there was a cheaper way to do this?
We've a 1980s state of the art
Pioneer system, that we've attached a CD player to as well - but you can't record/burn CDs on it.
Any ideas?

if you have a turntable, you could connect it to the line in of a PC, record to a wav file using audacity, and then burn to CD.
you may need a preamp, Maplin sell them for about £25

If you have a headphone out on the hifi, you could get away without the preamp, but have to be careful to adjust the levels correctly.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

Thank you both.
Looks like I have some technical info to plough through, but certainly looks easy enough & cheap!

Personally I would recommend using audacity as albertross mentioned, fortunately my old turntable already had a built in preamp, so it was just a question of a pair of leads from maplins (which was very cheap), just ask the assistant and tell them what you want to do and plug them into your line in at the back of your pc. Its amazing what you can listen to again.Old Faithful we roam the range together,

And the Boulevard’s white with clover,
For you old faithful pal of mine.0
