If Atos agree to a home visit, and subsequently find you fit for work by scoring you under 15 points, will the very fact that you received a letter (copy of the fax to Atos ) from your GP stating that you are unable to attend a medical (and give an explanation as to why you are unable) be of any use at the DM reconsideration stage or at the appeal stage?

To a degree.
However "The GP is not trained in assessing disability, but in treating the medical needs of their patients. The Health Care Professionals report is likely to be more accurate" - or similar - can be the general sort of response.
It depends also why.
The GP may have said you can't come to the assessment, for reasons that do not match up with any ESA descriptor, or do not grant you 15 points.
It's generally not going to be useless, but it may not be as useful as you hope.0
