Paid to much redundancy

Hi there.

I was made redundant 7 weeks ago as my company went into administration. I recieved my letter the other day stateing what money i was getting from the government.

Basically i am going to be paid £2000 to much. I am 25 and worked for 7 years so should revieve 4 years at £400 and 3 years at £200 (as i was under 21) £2200. But on my letter they have said i am 75 and should get 10.5 weeks at £400. £4200.

I gave them all the correct information and they have all my national insurance numbers and so on. So do i sit tight and get the money, or do i say something.

It doesnt say i need to confirm anything so its no my fault.

My thinking is sit tight and take the money but put the £2000 away incase they come back and say they make an error. But i dont want to break the law by claiming money that isnt mine. As i said before they are not asking me to confirm anything.

You help appreciated.

You know you are going to have to pay this money back, they have 6 years to claim it back. If as you say you don't want to break the law, then pay it back now, otherwise you are breaking the law.

How have the government made this mistake when they have a NI number the mind boggles at what they are doing with our money!
  • Had to laugh at them making you 75! :rotfl:Surely common sense would tell them this was wrong. I'ld wouldn't bet money on them spotting it in 6 years either. I think they should give you a job as they obviously need someone that can copy details correctly and count.

It doesn't matter whether the letter asks you to confirm anything or not. You know that you aren't 75 and you know that you are not entitled to 10.5 weeks pay. So you therefore know that the letter you have received is wrong. Faling to point out an obvious error like this is no different from having filled in the wrong details yourself - you know that this is money to which you are not entitled. Show some integrity and point out their error.
