Council tax benefits if on tax credits?

If on tax credits does anyone know if you qualify for council tax benefits?

I'm paying out a small fortune in council tax as eventhough I have a 3 bed house its not a normal one (detached stone barn conversion) and they class band it on what its worth.

My house is no bigger than the average 3 bed home and only 4 people live in it. Just because its worth more money than the average 3 bed in this area I get heavily stung for it.

council tax benefit is for those with very low incomes or no income at all so doubt you wont be entitled to it, but put yours and your partner's income into this site and have a look www.entitledto.co.uk
  • Council Tax Benefit discounts are means testes and receiving Tax Credits does not automatically qualify a household. The following link provides an eligibilty calculator http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/CouncilTax/DG_10037422

Sure Start Maternity Grant : daughter can claim the grant at any time from the 29th week of her pregnancy until her child is three months old.

Healthy Start : Pregnant women and children over one and under four years old get one voucher (each worth £2.80) a week. Children under one year old get two vouchers a week. Daughter can also get free vitamin supplements. They're usually available from NHS clinics and health centres but your midwife or health visitor will be able to advise on local arrangements.

Community Care Grant : paid to ease exceptional pressure on you and your family but the emphasisi is on exceptional

I had a discount last year but it was tiny, something I know. Especially when you are paying £111.00 a month, but it was stopped after 10 months. Circumstances changed but they did say if you have another decreased in your monthly monies then to put in another claim.
