Imaging a PC

Hi

I have just spend saturday rebuilding my pc. I was wondering if there is any software where I could take an image for my pc and use this to re-image my pc in the future when a need arises.

Please advise. I would probably only need to use the software once as I don't like twiddling with my pc until my little lad totally messes it up.

Your help would be appreciated !

Thank you

Would I be able to use Acronis 7 to create the HDD disk image. If so, I will not have to upgrade to Acronis 10 saving me funds.

    Hi,
Acronis TrueImage 7 Personal will allow you to make a complete backup "image" of your hard drive without the need to upgrade to version 10. The personal versions are lacking a few of the features of the full versions, but maintain the core functionality i.e they image your hard disk. I think it was on the cover disk of PCW magazine Nov 2006 edition.

The full version of TrueImage 10 is currently on sale at Amazon.co.uk for £23.97 down from about 40 pounds (and you can use a click through cashback site and free delivery). You may want to hunt around a few of the online computing shops to see if they are cheaper (they sometime have it on promotion). If you upgrade at the Acronis website (download version only) it suggests the price will be £20.40, though you may want to check if this includes VAT as some US based online stores only add this on at the last minute after you've gone thorugh all the stages of buying!

The newer "full" versions add more features such as incremental backups (i.e. only save the bits of your hard disk that have changed on your PC since the last time you backed up). The new version, Version 10, has a major selling point of being fully Microsoft Vista compatible, where as earlier versions are not fully.

A review of the current version can be found here: http://www.vnunet.com/personal-computer-world/software/2168789/review-acronis-trueimage-home

Some computer magazines regularly feature imaging software on their cover CDs / DVDs from various firms. Another company that makes this type of software is Paragon with their Drive Backup Product (though the earlier Drive Image and Exact Image have appeared on cover CDs as well).
