If it's very expensive to buy food - it might actually be cheaper to eat out? I know when we went to Tenerife and to the US, this was certainly the case. Only experience our family have of La Plagne was in a chalet so can't help there.
However, we did go to Val Thorens one New Year and the first evening we went for a drink in a bar. OH had a bottle of Guinness and I had a very slim glass which had more ice in than lemonade and it was £5 and that's going back about 8 years ago!!
Needless to say that we went to the supermarket after that and bought bottles of wine instead.
There was an extended family staying at our hotel and they were saying they'd nearly bankrupted themselves buying hot chocolate for all the kids.
Fingers crossed that the Euro doesn't drop any more meantime. Have a wonderful holiday.0 -

when i go backpacking abroad, i used to make dhal (so lentils is essential) and eat peanut butter, veggie tube pate on rice cakes/crackers. the rest of the meals were local bread, fruit and slices of deli meat. Presumably, your skiing resort is in Northern Europe where food prices are exorbitant, so buying fresh stuff you'll have to make it last. If you had a food dehydrator like some of us on here do, then you can make full meals that you can re-hydrate!
tho' i'm pretty sure you can still buy dried onion and marrowfat peas, fruit... can't rem the others...0 -
Not a suggestion for food, just if you are taking skis/snowboards make the most of your oversizes baggage allowance and wear your boots on the journey rather than taking them in hold. My OH always manages to get all his clothes in with his snowboard leaving his backpack free for other stuff
mainy gifts as he visits friends in Sweden
