I've received an email from Plusnet suggesting I download their Plusnet Assist.

I'd appreciate any opinions before I think about downloading it.

Usually I would say no, and as usual I say don't. You will get more help from here and it will save someone here telling you to tick it on a hijackthis log and remove it ;)

  • Do BT still own Plusnet?

It sounds like a clone of BT's desktop help which I used when I first went online. It was utterly useless and never identified the problem.

I soon realised troubleshooting was easy enough without their "help".

    Yes BT do own Plusnet
I suspect Plusnet assist is more designed for those who know totally nothing about what they are doing and have no wish or interest to even try learning about it - they just want it "fixed".

So this will be an assisting tool to automatically run through some diagnostics checks and more importantly take the load off the call centre...so they get fewer of the agrieved calls along the lines of "my broadband don't work, its all plusnets fault and the service is c**p".
  • I too tend to avoid such things but I think in this case it might be useful - has anyone on here actually tried it?

I'm sure there's loads of good support on this site but my last problem with Plusnet meant I couldn't get online. The phone help was good and talked me through resetting the router but I could have done it myself if I'd known where the info was on my PC. I am assuming that Plusnet Assist would take me through the same steps as the guy on the phone.

Sorry peeps, thought I had replied to this.

I am fairly tech savvy as far as software is concerned and haven't come across anything I haven't been able to solve either myself or by asking on here so I will go with my first instinct and forget about this. Just wanted to check there was nothing I was missing.

It is free to try, if you don't need it /use it, uninstall it, but then again you may learn something from it.
