do you have some examples of such schemes with a proven track record of generating jobs (with any sort of value for money) which have been flushed down the toilet?
i'm not saying there aren't any, but everything in that area which seems to hit the press seems to have a budget of £100 million and created about 23 jobs (and they are probably the people who administer the scheme).
whilst govt can create the right environment for job creation through e.g. tax policy, and can schmooze other countries to attact investment inwards, setting up department with an objective of making jobs appear (without spending so much money it makes the whole thing completely counter-intuitive) is basically impossible.0 -

Go look at the numbers. Those schemes were only getting small percentages into work.
Why do leftwingers always think the answer has to be spending money, it's so unimaginative.
The Greeks and Italians tried it you know.......
Have confidence in the people, it will start to turn around soon.
The direction of travel is correct.
It's obvious employment will struggle when Europe is in it's current condition.0 -
I wish some of my fellow Tories would come support me in my thread in Discussion Time as it's swamped by lefties.
PS - they will tick you off for use of the word 'leftie'.

I wouldn't say I'm Tory as such as there are big parts of Tory policy I feel are just poor common sense, but what I really cannot stand is this cancerous Labour attitude that you do not need to live within your means, anyone can have anything irrespective of if they can pay for it or not and their gob-smackingly stupid talk on the economy (example, you cut harder than we would have therefore you'll have to spend more: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-15768298 - this is sheer economic illiteracy).0 -

more of the same opposition politics nonsense really. when the wheels fell off it was all "look, this started in america" and "global, global, global", which is a fair enough assessment. then when they're in opposition it's all "if only we threw a few billion more down the drain, our economy would be growing really strongly".
this of course completely ignores the global basis of their arguments whilst in office, as whatever the UK govt does, our growth (or rather our meaningful growth not represented by just recycling tax receipts over and over again) is rather unlikely to significantly outstrip that of our major trading partners. they don't need to bother with that reality, as they are in opposition, so it's all "spend spend spend, everyone will be better off".
must say, if i was a tory PM i'd be tempted to prove them wrong by massively increasing govt spending and then handing them the mess that resulted at the end of my term, but then i am a sociopath...0
