HMRC have cut my tax credit without telling me

I have just checked my bank to find they have cut my tax credits by 2/3rds. My income has gone down not up, but I haven't informed them since my last tax return (I am self employed). They had sent me a letter in October telling me that they are investigating me for working at goldfish. I don't work for goldfish and never have, so I sent back my paperwork advising them of this. The letter stated that I needed to reply by 25th November, which we haven't even reached yet, yet still they cut my credit. I am now unable to pay my mortgage, can't get through to an advisor (they are too busy to let me even queue). I look after children for a living, so staying on the phone, hoping I can get into the queue is not a realistic option for me. I need to get this sorted by the end of the month, any suggestions?

phone them as soon as they open in the morning might not be as busy
if you really do have problems paying your mortgage then contact your lender asap to see what help they can offer0 -
another trick is to phone them 10 minutes before closing time - if you don't get an answer you can complain that they've left early.
Yet another trick is to ring the welsh speaking line - they can speak english too and are usually sitting there bored witless most of the time!Overactively underachieving for almost half a century0
