Quad bike insurance for 19 year newly passed driver?

Looking to get a road legal quad bike, but was wondering if anyone knows which quads have cheaper insurance?

Ive seen Bashan BS 200 S-3 for about £500 and got insurance quoted for £520 third party. Do you think this is good deal?

I only want a cheap road legal quad to ride to college, not looking to buy now, maybe in jan/feb 2012.

I dont see the point of a quad, All the downsides of a bike and none of the benefits.

Buy a scooter instead. CBT about £120 i think. Wide choice of bikes/scooters 50cc upto 125cc.

£500 road legal, I presume thats 2nd hand and on its last legs?

This topic came up on another forum I am a member of. This was one reply...
Oh yeah i have some advice. You WONT get cheap insurance at all. They will question everything. Its not a car and its not a bike so they class it as specialist and price accordingly! Not only that, when you do finally have a body bashing crash they ask you for your Agricutural licence or ATV licence... and even though a full uk motorcycle licence along with the fpk categorys of your licence covers it by law..they still try worm there way out of paying out. If your a farmer...you have no worries but everyone else beware. Had to take my insurer to court in the end. Even though i was the one that got hit. Thank god i'm not one of the total idiots that drives them on the road with no leathers or full face helmet

I can see the point in bad weather. Yes you still get wet and cold, but I'd rather have four wheels keeping me upright than relying on 2. Im not saying that all bikers have bad accidents in bad weather, and I've never ridden a bike or scooter in bad weather (cue them all saying how surprisinly stable they are) but what I do know of is my colleague coming off her bike at 20mph in the wet, and my dad's friend who was was police motorcyclist and got killed when coming off in the rain.
Having ridden quads (albeit on welsh farm lands) I understand the attraction and have toyed with the idea of one, but as someone has pointed out, it looks like a bit of an insurance minefield...

Would you buy a cheap chinese one though?

11 1/2 months of suffering to be stable for the few days when we get a bit of snow.

I had a scooter and used it in all weathers, City traffic though.

Country lanes in the snow would have made me think twice.

Adrian Flux will quote for road legal quads - ring them
  • I'm sure you know what you are doing, but make sure your number plate meets the minimum size requirement.......the police like to check with quads.
    ''apply within'' :)
