  • Last March I returned to work after maternity leave. During my first week back at work ( new town, easier commute) I popped into Woolies, picked up all my christmas cards , card holdes and wrapping paper. I have no idea why they were on sale at that time, but I hope they do it again as I have not had much spare to take part in the sales.

Mum & skint, how do you suggest getting started.

BTW I may try to pick up some cheap decorations for my pre-valentines , ann summers party on the Saturday. I'll reuse them for Christmas 2007

Just realised this is the freebie board, well I guess it would be best to post freebies we see whilst out and about (internet and real world) which would be suitable for Christmas.
  • Thats what I did, Ive already bought my cards and wrapping paper, am going to start writing my cards soon, so that they just have to be addressed and posted, Ive earnt 2 pigsback Boots Vouchers, put by also for Xmas, and picked up a few bargains in the sales for neices/nephews, not bad for January really, am going to buy one present a month and Im going to experiment making toffee vodka, to see if its nice and if so, might buy the bits and bobs etc in preparation, there's a few recipes on the thread too for truffles etc., so will be looking out for decorative gift boxes to house those when I make them nearer Christmas xxx

PS, enjoy your Ann Summers party, I used to be a rep before my son was born,........great fun xxx

Last year I made sloe gin for all my adult relatives- you can get basic supermarket gin really cheaply and providing you can find a source of sloes in the autumn (we found two bushes in our local park) your only outlay is the gin and some sugar. I made labels for the bottles in Publisher and the end product was absolutely delicious. You need to start it off around September to be ready for Christmas. Blackberry vodka is also lovely.

  • I have a suitcase full of wrapping paper, bags etc, that were reduced, I've also started to buy for Christmas, this year I'll have to write a list because wrapping all my hoarded stuff was murder, it took me ages because I'd forgotten who was getting what  .

I went to Matalan and got a few bits there but the best deal so far this year was Asda, they had party dresses, t shirts and shoes reduced to 50p and £1.00, I managed to get £150 of stuff for £11.50. I have five neices one nephew and another on the way, not forgetting my little boy, so I wasn't being greedy or anything. I was really pleased with the stuff. Also I was R-points and subscribed to Maxim, got 400 r-points and a free shaving set worth £14.00 so that's been put aside for Dp. I think this offer was £3.00 in total.
I'm hoping Boots will come through with something similar to the No7 gift boxes for under £2.00 and I usually go to Wilkinsons, they always seem to have bargains and 75% off, my best buy from Wilkinsons was a brylcream/hair trimmer set, with gel and styling wax for £2.49, reduced from £10.00, I got two, one for my brother and one for dp. Amazon was a godsend too, I had vouchers for them from the various survey sites so ordered loads of stuff in their sale.

    Happy Christmas bargain hunting!!!

Cards already bought, also picked up some pressies. but our BIG saving is we're going on holiday at Christmas. Wored out its paid for by not having to buy pressies for all the relatives we never see for the rest of the year
