I'm trying to gently prod the frenzied knitting grandmas-to-be toward 3-6 and 6-9 month stuff at the moment.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

Ooh - thanks for this tip. I have just ordered one online for my bump (due end of Jan). It is half price at the moment (so £3) and ordered through Quidco for cashback and free delivery to store - plus got to use a code for 200 free points worth £2 - so all in all just cost £1.:T

Definitely a mobile for the cot! Love the fisherprice jungle one!
How about some nappies in the next size up? (you can NEVER have too many nappies or wipes!)
2 sleeping bags (much better than blankets)
a tube on nipple cream!! (lansinoh - this is a MUST HAVE if breastfeeding!)
a good book for you to read when the breastfeeds go on for AGES!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
They grow so quickly! My little boy is now almost 20 weeks, and he's outgrown the 3-6 month stuff and is floundering around in 6-9 months which is still a little large for him.
As far as baby stuff goes, my must-haves would include some of these - one piece with poppers
I had some tshirts like this given to me and they were a lifesaver, as a new mum I was nervous about pulling anything over my baby's head, so as these have poppers down the side, at least that was one thing less to worry about.
I got these in the States, and highly recommend them if you can get them over here, or if you know anyone who's going over Stateside soon... Carters Long Sleeve with poppers
I shouldn't laugh, but he always amused me when I put him in these, they look like mini chefs whites to me...
You'll find that some of the stuff you are given is great, and other stuff is not quite to your taste. Personally, I couldn't get on with the sleeping bags with elastic round the bottom, but now that my bub's a bit older, I'm loving these instead - snuggly
Ooh, and if you're breastfeeding, you might want to get one of these shaws- I was really uncomfy nursing in public without something like this. There are ways around it of course, but it saved my blushes until I got to grips with it all.
If nothing else though, I completely agree with Pinkshoes, you can never have too many nappies (although don't get all newborn size, my bubs was out of those within the first week!)
Sorry for length of post, I think I got slightly carried away there....Lead me not into temptation - I can find it perfectly well all by myself

Sparkly
I was given it as a present by a friend who was also given a copy as a gift for her daughter who loved it which is why she decided to buy one for my baby!
My 5 month old baby boy has a big smile on his face every time he sees me bringing out this book. Bonus is that it's a hard book so I don't have to worry about him ripping any of the pages as he's currently obsessed with grabbing at the pictures.
Thanks for tip about the sale - I see it covers a variety of books and toys!"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" (Douglas Adams)0 -
This has helped me too! My brother and my sister in law are having their first baby in January, so I was wondering what to get them (and my first nephew/niece! :j). I will ask my bro and see what they would like that is more practical (but nice), and also get something more personal for the baby, maybe a nice bound fairy tales book. I had one as a kid, and I still cherish it! They live in France, my brother is French but my SIL is American...and I live in the UK. So what language should I get it in?? lol I guess this is going to be a long term worry for me!

Max,
I am Scottish and my husband is Japanese (we live in Madrid - randomly!). We are happy to receive books in either English or Japanese as we both enjoy reading to him in our first languages.
Presuming they want their son to be bilingual (I would check first - just in case!) then I'd send books in English since they will be able to get hold of French books easily."Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" (Douglas Adams)0 -
Thanks all! This has been really useful!
I've sent the list to my mum to send on as she sees fit - and positioned it as "These are things we've been eyeing up / thinking of getting - not a list of what we expect to be bought".
Now the only thing is we actually want to buy/tick off some of the bits on there as some of it is more essential than others and we'd planned on getting that stuff sooner rather than later. I guess I'll just have to tell mum if/when we buy anything...0 -
Hi
our daughter is now two months old (not sure where thats gone!!) and i think that the top three presents we were given (being the ones that we've used the most and have been a life saver are
-a thin knitted rabbit teddy that we were able to put in her basket to get her to sleep,
-various styles of hats as its getting cold now,
-and a few boxes of chocolates. these i munched a couple of in the night when i had been awake with baby for more than an hour as a 'treat' to keep me going and make me feel better. just made coping that little bit easier! in fact i think the chocolates were a life saver!!!
