We are moving soon so having a sort out and I have just come across a Spong Mincer. I have had a look on ebay and its not worth much, but thought I might keep it as it might come in handy. What could I use if for besides mincing meat? Any suggestions?

I'm not really sure, clamped to a shelf mine was a bookend for a while. Do you know to clean it by mincing a piece of bread at the end of meat mincing? I seem to remember an old recipe of my grandmothers using the mincer to process Seville oranges for Marmalade. I would think making stuffings and other roughly processed foods would be good. Food processors and blenders are sometimes a little too thorough.

at a car boot sale, in the box for 50p
Now I know they are useful , but what for! Im not about to start buying steak and mincing it, we just dont have the budget for that, but any other ideas - very much welcomed!
Otherwise, it might end up going to the charity shop:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

My lot dont like brown turkey meat! - I love it so I mince it and make patties with it with chives and parsley and potatoes etc and they dont know that I have used the brown meat. Its great for that kind of thing. Or mince up left over roast and mix with gravy and top with beans and mash for a shepherds pie with a difference.Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

Hi lynzpower.
I mince up leftover roast to make burgers, meatballs, bolognese, chicken pasta bake [particularly, like susank said, the dark meat of the chicken, otherwise it gets wasted].
50p's one of those bargains where you can try it, and if you don't like it, you haven't lost much money.
I would love to find a sausage maker at a car boot, because I would love to make my own sausages, but the cheapest I've found so far is £70:eek:There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -
OOOh, thanks for these ideas.
I have to say pork joints in our house usually end up going to the dog- so maybe she'll get getting less than usual in the future
If I wanted to make burgers ( I make HM burgers just using normal minced beef in a griddle pan ) but using already cooked meat- how would they bond together? any tips? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? pureed tomatoes help mine bond together - enough so they are moist. Just leave them to soak in the tomato juice for a bit first in the fridge, then shape. There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0

:rotfl:When your not Using your Sponge Mincer for meat mince you can make fruit mince for baking (Fruit mince Pies).
Set up your mincer on the bench with a bowl under it,
chuck into the hoper some dried fruit e.g; raisins, currents, cranberries (depending what you have).
turn handle till all the fruit is minced.
Quarter an apple and core. place the apple quarter's in the mincer and mince one at a time. The apple will push the remaining dry fruit stuck in mincing chamber out.
wash the mincer and place in the oven to dry.
you will now have a bowl of fruit mince, add mixid citrus peel, brown sugar, spices, and alcohol e.g. Brandy, (to taste).
And use it as filling in your baking, reading in 5 minutes0
