Re-sizing a ring - £42?

Hi there
I purchased my fiance a ring around 11 months ago, and in that time she has lost almost 2 stone and so it no longer fits her as well as it did.

We took it back to H Samuels where we purchased it as when it was sold to us we took out the insurance policy and had been told that a ring resize would be classed as a repair and could get done under it if ever was needed.

Fast forward 10 months, and apparantly the policy has changed and doesn't include that and they want to charge us £42.

Just wondering if anyone has had their ring resized and how much it cost them - as we have no idea if this is overpriced or the norm? My gut feeling is it's a bit pricey, bt shes looking to go down by from an M to a J probably so like 2 - 3 sizes!

Thanks

seems fair to me I had a ring cut off and then repaired several years ago and it cost £50
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

  • I would take it to a few independent jewellers to find out cost and time. Places like samuels send it away so it can take a couple of weeks but independent jewellers may be able to do it in the shop and in a quicker time scale.

I need my diamond setting rhodium plated and asked in samuels and it was something like £35 and 2 weeks, I went to a local independent jewellers and it was £30 but I could take it in tues and have it back Thursday so it is definately worth shopping around as I know I cant go that long without my ring.

Emailed Tiffany's last week about getting a ring down sized and they have said 32 pounds approx.

My Jewllers did it for free - that's rubbish that H Samuel have gone back on their word! I agree with PinkPrincess - take it to some independent stores and check what they charge, they might well be cheaper than a chain store. I use my local independent jewller for repairs / treatments etc. and they have a workshop attached so don't have to send it away for resizing. Hope you get it sorted! :)

Mine was free as it was only a few days after being given it, but the parking ticket received whilst collecting it cost me £30

If you specifically bought the insurance because you thought/they specifically said it might need resizing then surely you were missold the policy/insurance? I would be after a refund on the insurance at the very least. Did they inform you in writing of the changes? Someone on the insurance boards might be better advising as i don't know much about how it all works.

I asked in an independent shop last week, as i would like my engagement ring made a size smaller and the price I was given was £44, so the independent shops aren't necessarily cheaper.
