noisy washing machine

I have an integrated smeg washing machine that has been making a scratching noise at the start of each wash cycle this lasts for the first half hour then stops, we have had the man out 3 times and he says its normal!! but its driving me mad, they did change the pump so looked at the drum with a tourch when they had the machine out said it was ok. The last time they came they just listened but said there was no noise, But my husband was left to sort it out and didn"t question them I would have. Any suggestions what this noise might be?:mad:
