Well, that was easy Tesco

I've been lethargic in trying to open a new Tesco Internet Saver account and close the old one.

I finally made myself start the task this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised how straight forward and easy it was. Took all of ten minutes.

Opened new account - transferred all but £1 from the old to the new account.
Rang Tesco customer service and a pleasant Irish accented chap transferred the £1 and closed the old account.

Makes a nice change to read of a good experience with Tesco Banking.

    Lucky you !

I have tried twice in the last few days as the bonus on my existing account runs out the end of this month.

Both times the application failed half way through with an error.

Did you start the application while you were signed into/from your Tesco account?

Yes, it inserted both personal details ok (joint account) the next page showed annual interest and then after this it failed.

Oh dear, I'd have been really ticked off if that had happened to me.
Might be worth giving Tesco a ring and see if they can sort it for you.

Yes I will try once more then give them a ring, just hoped to have done it all online.
  • So much for this being an internet account;I was unable to work out what my interest rate is at present from the screen info.Had to ring Tesco who confirmed the interest rate information for my account is only held by them.So any time you want to compare rates/bonus end date, you need to ring them.
In the old days banks always recorded interest rates in an accessible way,Tesco like most others ,is playing the inertia game.

I had to withdraw some money from Tesco this week. After the mess up with the changes in security arrangements I had been reluctant to even log into my account. There was no need to worry though, logged in and money transfered all ok. I am happy with Tesco's at the moment.

Can't open a Tesco Internet Saver at all. Been trying for three months. Get an error every time. Spent half an hour on the phone being passed from one person to another and the eventual answer was "tough".

So I opened a Halifax Online Saver, which took most of 20 seconds. All they asked was how much money to transfer from which other account.

After my recent problems trying to open an account online, I phoned them last night and they opened it over the phone.

It may have helped that I already had an internet saver and just wanted a new one for the better bonus rate.

Found them quite helpful, although they could not explain the errors I was getting.

Sparky47 - Did you notice if the sort code on your new Internet Saver is now different to your old one?
The old one was changed in June to 40-64-06.

I received a letter from Tesco this morning, confirming my new Internet Saver and the sort code is 40-64-05.

Yesterday, I amended the Tesco details in the bank accounts I had linked with them.
I assumed (doh! to me) the sort code stayed the same.
Now I'll have to amend the details again.
