Freeview Channels Query

This relates to two tv's with built-in Freeview, one in living room (at front of property) and one in bedroom (at back of property). Both tvs have a good quality cable coming from the roof aerial. However the bedroom tv does not receive a number of channels, despite retuning, that the living room one does.
Any advice welcome.

Are you saying that both cables are connected to the same aerial? The cables should be connected to a distribution amp, which is fed from the aerial.

Or at least an impedance-matched splitter. (If it's a good quality aerial).

I'm fairly sure this is the case. Cables were fitted by a proper tradesman.

Try bringing the bedroom TV into the living room to see how it behaves on that aerial feed (and vice versa if it isn't too much trouble). Try re-tuning the bedroom TV when plugged into that aerial point. If the bedroom TV improves when it's in the lounge, then it's an aerial problem. If not, you'll know it's the TV.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was the TV. The gain of the tuners in some makes of TV are better than others. I personally have one that is pretty poor one all of the Freeview aerial points in the house but other TVs are reasonably OK.

If you don't have a distribution amplifier (as was mentionted earlier), maybe get one fitted. These amplify the signal enough to overcome the fact that the signal has been split in order to run the two TVs. If you do get a distribution amplifier, maybe consider getting one with more outlet sockets than you presently need. Then you can feed the signal to another room if ever you want to.

It is also possible to have too much gain from an amplified aerial system. This can cause sound drop-out and picture pixelation, just the same as weak signal does. What's needed or not can depend on the strength of the signal coming from the transmitter.
