No external sound when using HDMI

OK new blu-ray player connected to the TV via the HDMI cable no other sound outputs.
TV sound conncected to my Hifi via the scart output of the TV.
When I use just TV I get sound out of my amp (obviously through the speakers connected to it) but when I play a blu-ray DVD (or anything else through the HDMI connected player) I get sound through the TV but not through the amp.
I simply do not get why if the sound is coming through the TV speakers it is not being fed to the scart too.
If I plug the amp through the headphones output on the TV I get DVD sound through the amp.
I have checked and played with the settings on both the TV and the player but nothing changes.
It is driving me nuts has anyone any suggestions?

I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

Think HDMI is limited to other HDMI devices.
The throughput to the Hi-Fi might not work as it's not HDMI.Laters

Thought about that but the TV is an HDMI device surely?
I am feeding from the TV if it comes out the TV sound do not understand why not out the SCART output on the TV (or for that matter the phono outputs on the TV).
Just very annoyingI started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -
HDMI wont work with Analogue Devices, so you will not be able to play sound out of the scart. The only way to do this is use the Headphone output.
If you want the 'HD Surround Sound' you need an multimedia system with HDMI in and out and output for speakers obviously
eg Blue ray Player + Playstation 3 + Sky all HDMI into system and then HDMI out to TV and conenctions to speakersTech Savvy Student trying to help and learn

Yep, your TV is a dead end really, shouldn't be outputting to anywhere, you're meant to connect, all via HDMI, from your Blu-Ray Disc, to a swanky new HDMI switching amp, to your TV. Good old copy protection hurting the consumer...0
