Eon unpaid bill from 2 and halsf years ago. question and help!

Options
I moved out of a house in June 2009. I was at this house from 18th Dec 2008- 18th June 2009 (rented) so for 6 months.

During this time as far as i can remember we never recived an electrity bill but did pay gas and water.

Eon have sent a letter to my current address Dated Nov 2011, stating that we now owe them £638 for electricity. The letter was sent with a baliff final notice.

How long after you move out of a rented property do they have to contact you?
Does anyone have any advice about what i can do in this situation as I do not have a spare £638 just lying around!

There is not a single answer to your question, depending on circumstances it could be you owe £638 (if the bill is correct), or it could be that the Billing Code back-billing measures means you owe nothing.

Rather than going on "a letter" you need to take steps to obtain copy bills. If you are confident that you registered for a supply and never received any bills and you provided a forwarding address and you still never received any bills, then I suggest you raise a formal complaint making that point.

    Hi gentlecleanser,

As jalexa says, this all really depends on the individual circumstances.

Did you contact us when you first moved in with your meter readings? So we open your account and again when you moved out with your final readings and forwarding address?

I know this is a long time ago :o

It is up to the customer to inform us when they move in and out of properties to enable us to bill you correctly.

But if you did do this and let us know then something has gone wrong somewhere.

The first thing to do is contact E.ON and ask for the bills and see what has happened.

    Hope this helps.

    Helena :)
