Sore bottom crack.

Options
Erm, sensitive subject, but I'm sure someone can help out.
My friend has got a crack in the skin between her buttocks (I was a nurse, so people ask my advice on just about everything lol!).
She has tried gently washing and using Sudocrem, but it isn't really healing. It may settle for a few weeks, but then cracks again.
Has anyone tried anything that works?
(BTW, it is superficial always.)

Never suffered from this myself but I imagine that her problem is similar to a crack at the corner of one's mouth.

I'd recommend vaseline to keep the skin moist so it doesn't tear.

Could be an infection of course...

    I'd say try Vaseline too!

I think it may be caused more by moisture than dryness in that area. Maybe vaseline would still maybe protect it?

  • If it is constantly recurring there is a possibility it may be a pilonidal cyst, that would require a trip to and treatment by the doctor.

No, it's not a cyst. It is defintiely just a long superficial crack in the skin. Inagine you pulled the skin apart just a bit too much, and it split.

The need for a GP calls, because of where it is it really is open to nasty infection.

Please get them to see a doctor, in the meantime Im with the others with vaseling

    OUCH!

Someone I know had problem sore skin caused by perspiration, but it was more on the underneath bit, not where you described. Savlon seemed to help clear it up.
  • What about cuticura powder.

A close friend of mine had something similar, after visiting the docs he was told that he'd just been wiping his bottom a bit too roughly and needed to be gentler :D

Although getting a doctors appointment wouldn't hurt just to be sure!

Vaseline is the answer. I agree there is a high risk of infection because of the site, if it becomes inflamed or weeps then your friend should see the GP. Not before.
