Tax Credit Overpayment

Hi, I'm self employed and our projected profits at the beginning of our financial year have thankfully been exceeded - the bad news being that I've been overpaid tax credits.
I owe £2500 approx and am happy to pay back what isn't mine - the payments may be irregular though - so not too keen on direct debit.
Have any of you had to pay back credits and if so - how long do you get, do they charge interest, how did you do it?
Thanks in advance!
