EDF switching to annual meter reading/billing

Hi,

I recently switched to EDF Fixed Price 2014 and have also had gas central heating installed for the first time so I am very keen to monitor my bills.

EDF have just told me by email that they have switched to annual meter reading and billing for direct debit customers and I will receive my first bill July 2012. I have emailed them back explaining my position, that annual meter reading is too infrequent.

If necessary I will have to change suppliers again but will have to pay £70 redemption charge:(

Anyone any advice or suggestions about this?

Sorry for waffling and thank you for reading this.

Lucky you. Most Edf customers here would/will be delighted.:j (I'm a July start on EDF FP 2014 and await my lucky email):D

If you jump ship now it will cost you a lot more than the £70 early termination charge. You are on a very competitive tariff.:) Go to a comparison website and see what it costs today to get a fix until 2014.

I'd suggest you learn to read the meter.
Shouldn't take more than an hour.

You can submit your own readings as often as you want (should be at least quarterly).
They are only obliged to physically read your meter once every two years.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

If you need to monitor your bills, find where the meter is and set up a spreadsheet of your own weekly readings. It's what I've done for the last few years and what has contributed to me paying an accurate amount per month for my yearly energy consumption.
