And there's NO americans in Cuba :)

Stayed in the Bella Costa hotel in Varedero 3 years ago, it was wonderful.

That's the hotel we stayed in! Great place!

stayed in Playa Del Carmen for one week and toured the Yucatan peninsula for one week and loved evrey minute of it (stayed one night in Cancun which seemed a MUCH busier and built up experience).

stayed at Brises Del Caribe in Varedero and enjoyed every minute of it.

i think whichever destination you choose you are going to have a whale of a time.

p.s. you seem to get more for your all inclusive in Cuba. when we went it included free scuba diving, free sailing, free power boat trips and free champagne with meals !

That's the place I have heard about, supposed to be lovely.

I love Puerto Vallarta. The diving, manta rays, deep sea fishing, Sierra Madre mountains. sunsets, the town itself. Fabulous place, long flight but worth it.
Like you say, each to his own.

You have got so many memories going here- had to get the piccies out!:D

I'd welcome any info on Cuba. Two Centre. I want to spend some time in Havana
either early december or straight after Xmas.
BTW I read yesterday that Cubans are to be discouraged from forming any kind of relationships with tourists. It seems theyre worried about some of our Western values rubbing off.
  • Can't tell you about Mexico yet - going to Xcaret (Yucatan peninsula) last week April.....

Went to Guardalavaca year before last and it was brill!.....All Inclusive was great - lots of variety of food and plenty of drink. Lovely beach and sea, good entertainment (we stayed in Las Brisas), but not a lot around apart form on the holiday complexes. Very cheap though for souvenirs & stuff....

The Jeep Safari into the hills & villages was the best day we'd had ....so interesting to see how the locals really live, and they are so happy to see you and friendly.

Havana was a real experience (did 3 nights there). You have to be a bit careful, but it's very interesting!!! Musical groups really do pop up from nowhere and play to you, and the locals are really friendly. The areas which are 'done up' are really beautiful, and some of the slums are awful - a real city of contrasts......

Wouldn't bother with trip to Santiago - a very long day - grotty town - full of beggars and people trying to rip you off......

If you go, take loads of toiletries(nice smelling ones) to give to staff, maids etc as tips - they love them and anything except really basic stuff is very expensive to them.....also if you can take exercise books & pens & such to give to local schools they really appreciate that too...your local rep will normally distrbute tm or take them for you.

We loved it and will go back again one day!

Thanks FE for the advice. I've been to Xcaret and surrounding area. Didn't have long there but do remember the Mayan remains and the great snorkelling. Is Havana a bit dodgy when going out at night or is it just a case of using common sense like anywhere else?
    thanks again

We went to the Grand Flamenco Xcaret about 18 months ago and had a great time, fair enough it's a bit away from other places but grounds are big enough for a long walk every night and Playa Del Carmen is close enough to get a taxi too if need be, we thoroughly enjoyed it and would go back no questions

I went to Cancun, love, love, loved it.

The only thing i'd say was don't go there if it is the 'spring break' as it is very busy with young kids, but apart from that it's brill.

We went swimming with sharks and visited the pyramids and it was great.
